WU12: Kinderarzt Dr. Meissel FOXES Bruck – Traiskirchen Lionesses 34:30

Successful season opener for our WU12 Foxes!

With plenty of fighting spirit and a great team performance, the Kinderarzt Dr. Meissel FOXES Bruck started successfully into the new WU12 season. At BORG Deutsch-Wagram on 11.10.2026, our Foxes faced two well-known opponents – in the first tournament game, the Traiskirchen Lionesses were waiting.

After our team finished last season in fifth place as one of the youngest squads in the league, our girls were able to show right at the first tournament how much they have developed. Many of our players are now in their second WU12 year and are benefiting from the experience they gained.

Thriller against the runners-up – Foxes show nerves of steel!

Right at the start, a real challenge awaited our Foxes in the Traiskirchen Lionesses, last season’s runners-up. From the beginning, an intense, fast-paced game developed in which neither team gave an inch. The aggressive defense of the Lionesses in particular made it tough for our girls to bring the ball forward safely. But Alma took responsibility in running the play and mastered this task brilliantly despite the high pressure from the opponents. Great work was done defensively as well. Azra particularly impressed with a strong defensive performance and gave the most dangerous opponents a hard time.

Our FOXES narrowly won the first period 6:4. In the second period, the Lionesses fought back to temporarily take the lead, but our girls had the right answer ready. With a strong 8:0 run, they earned an important advantage. Above all, Stela showed great presence on offense, repeatedly creating good shooting opportunities and converting them consistently.

In the third period, our Foxes stepped it up even more, especially on defense. While the Lionesses couldn’t score a single point, our girls extended their lead further. Hard work was also put in on the boards. Isabella and Teodora secured important rebounds under the baskets, with the latter also rewarding her effort with a successful basket.

Yet the Lionesses by no means gave up and fought their way back step by step. Our FOXES held their ground and tried to execute what they had practiced in training. Sofia in particular was everywhere on the court, fought bravely for rebounds, and repeatedly pulled off great pass-and-cut plays. Serena also impressed with courageous drives to the basket, rewarding herself with points.

It was also wonderful to see how well our newer players integrated into the team. Layla, who just moved up to us from the WU10 this season, played in her very first WU12 tournament and already showed great dedication. Lamija, who gained her first game experience last season, also impressed with committed defensive work.

In the final regular period, things got really exciting once again. The Lionesses turned up the heat, caught up point by point, and actually managed to tie the game.

30:30 after six periods – Overtime!

Two extra minutes of play had to decide the outcome. After the hectic and nerve-wracking course of the game, one thing was needed above all: stay calm!

And that is exactly what our Foxes managed to do in the decisive moment. Instead of getting caught up in the rush, our girls found their way back to their team play. With nice, composed offensive actions and controlled passing, they worked out good scoring chances. Two important made free throws and another successful basket finally sealed the victory.

Final score 34:30 – what an opener!

A hard-fought victory against last season’s runners-up, where our Foxes proved their strength not only in their play, but also mentally!
