Foxes take charge against the Blue Devils!

At the WU12 tournament at BORG Deutsch-Wagram on October 11, 2026, our girls didn’t have much time to catch their breath after the opening thriller. The second game of the day was already scheduled for 1:00 PM. Another familiar opponent was waiting in the Blue Devils from Wiener Neustadt, who finished last season right behind our FOXES in sixth place in the standings.

Following the intense thriller against the Lionesses, a completely different game initially unfolded. While high tempo had dominated the first game right from the start, the matchup against the Blue Devils began almost soothingly slow. Our Foxes, who had just been in the middle of a fast-paced basketball thriller, first had to adjust to the unfamiliar rhythm.

In the beginning, the Blue Devils dictated the pace and our girls let themselves get dragged along a bit. But step by step, our FOXES managed to turn the tide. With more active defense, quicker transitions, and more movement without the ball, they increasingly took control of the game.

Teamwork was steadily improving, too. Good spacing created open areas, crisp passes found teammates, and our Foxes repeatedly created good scoring opportunities through great pass-and-cut plays. There was also a real battle on the boards, resulting in extra possessions and second chances.

It was especially pleasing that the scoring was distributed across many players, with our younger Foxes also driving successfully to the basket. Another highlight was a fantastic three-pointer!

As the game went on, our girls found their own rhythm better and better and stopped letting the opponents dictate the pace. This allowed them to play to their strengths and also win the second game of the day successfully.

Second game, second win – the perfect start to the season was achieved!

Note on scorekeeping: Unfortunately, the score table’s official statistics show some discrepancies for the second game. In particular, no points were credited to Azra, even though she definitely scored – including a successful three-pointer. Apparently, her points were mistakenly credited to other players. Unfortunately, the exact scoring breakdown can no longer be fully reconstructed in retrospect.

Played: Alma 16, Sofia 11, Stela 5, Isabella 4, Lamija 4, Serena 4, Layla 2, Azra S., Teodora.

A developmental year with lots of potential!

Since unfortunately no dedicated WU14 team could be registered this season, our FOXES are competing with a mixed roster. In addition to the regular WU12 players, two older girls who are eligible to play out of competition are supporting us. Because of this, our entire team is participating out of competition in the championship this season and cannot qualify for the final tournament, regardless of their final ranking.

The primary focus is therefore on the individual and collective development of our players. We want to use this season to grow even closer together as a team, gain game experience, and continuously improve at bringing practice concepts onto the court.

And the first tournament day has already shown that we are on a really good track! Our girls impressed with huge effort, fighting spirit, and great team chemistry. It was especially rewarding to see how many concepts from practice were already applied and how well our Foxes work together as a unit.

Two games, two wins, and nine Foxes who gave it their all – a completely successful season opener!

We are proud of our girls and look forward to an exciting season with this amazing team!

Keep it up, FOXES!
